Specificity: The antibody binds to a site distinct from the C3b binding site and can be used to measure the number of receptors despite occupancy by ligand.

Target Information

CD35 (CR1, Complement Receptor 1) is a cell membrane-bound, monomeric glycoprotein that serves as the cellular receptor for C3b and C4b, key components of the complement system responsible for clearing foreign macromolecules.
It mediates cellular binding to particles and immune complexes that have activated complement.
CD35 exists in four allotypes (C, A, B, D) with molecular weights of 160, 190, 220, and 250 kDa respectively.
This protein is expressed on neutrophils, eosinophils, monocytes, B-cells, some NK-cells, erythrocytes, myeloid leukemias, and follicular dendritic reticulum cells, but not on basophils.
Altered expression or mutations in CD35 are associated with gallbladder carcinoma, mesangiocapillary glomerulonephritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and sarcoidosis.
Certain mutations confer protection against severe malaria by reducing Plasmodium falciparum rosetting.
Alternate allele-specific splice variants and a secreted form of CD35 have been described.
