Specificity: The antibody binds to a site distinct from the C3b binding site and can be used to measure the number of receptors despite occupancy by ligand.
Target Information
CD35 (CR1, Complement Receptor 1) is a cell membrane-bound, monomeric glycoprotein that serves as the receptor for C3b and C4b, key components of the complement system. It mediates binding to particles and immune complexes that have activated complement. CD35 exists in four allotypes (C, A, B, D) with molecular weights ranging from 160 to 250 kDa. It is expressed on neutrophils, eosinophils, monocytes, B-cells, some NK-cells, erythrocytes, myeloid leukemias, and follicular dendritic reticulum cells, but not on basophils. Altered CD35 expression or mutations are associated with several diseases including gallbladder carcinoma, glomerulonephritis, lupus, and sarcoidosis, and may confer protection against severe malaria.
