The urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (PLAUR/uPAR/CD87) regulates cell-surface plasminogen activation and plays an important role in normal and pathological processes.
Human PLAUR cDNA encodes 335 amino acids, including a signal peptide and a hydrophobic C-terminal portion, producing a highly glycosylated ~50 kD membrane-anchored protein.
PLAUR associates with SELL and β2 integrins in neutrophils, mediating calcium mobilization.
UPAR mRNA levels correlate with invasiveness and disease progression in endometrial carcinomas, serving as a prognostic marker for advanced stages.
