Target Information
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are secreted signaling molecules capable of inducing ectopic bone growth. Many BMPs belong to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) superfamily. BMPs were first identified by their ability to induce endochondral osteogenesis from demineralized bone extracts. BMP-7, expressed early in embryogenesis, is implicated in developmental processes and may possess bone-inductive activity similar to BMP-5 and BMP-6.
