Target Information
Kininogen-1 (KNG1), also known as BDK or bradykinin, is a protein encoded by the KNG1 gene mapped to 3q27.3.
The gene generates two proteins via alternative splicing: high-molecular-weight kininogen (HMWK) and low-molecular-weight kininogen (LMWK).
HMWK is essential for blood coagulation and the kallikrein-kinin system assembly. KNG1 peptides cause various physiological effects and are released from HMWK.
In contrast, LMWK is not involved in blood coagulation. KNG1 is a constituent of both the blood coagulation and kinin-kallikrein systems.
