Target Information

Synaptotagmin 1 is a synaptic vesicle membrane glycoprotein widely expressed throughout the CNS and acts as a Ca²⁺ sensor in exocytosis and neurotransmitter release.
Its Ca²⁺-mediated binding of SNAP25 is essential for Ca²⁺-dependent membrane triggering.
Specific residues within the C2B domain regulate endocytic rate and vesicle size.
Synaptotagmin 1 may play a role in synaptic vesicle trafficking and binds acidic phospholipids requiring both an acidic head group and diacyl backbone.
It interacts with receptors for activated protein kinase C in a Ca²⁺-dependent manner and also binds neurexins, syntaxin, and AP2 independently of Ca²⁺.
Dysfunction of Synaptotagmin 1 is associated with food-borne and infant botulism.
