GPR68 (also known as OGR1 - ovarian cancer G-protein coupled receptor 1)
GPR68 is a proton-sensing receptor involved in pH homeostasis and acts as an osteoblastic pH sensor regulating cell-mediated responses to acidosis in bone. It mediates its action via G proteins that stimulate inositol phosphate (IP) production or Ca²⁺ mobilization. The receptor is nearly silent at pH 7.8 but fully activated at pH 6.8. It also functions as a tumor suppressor in prostate cancer. Mutations in this gene can cause amelogenesis imperfecta, hypomaturation type 2A6.
