TSH Receptor gene은 막 단백질로 갑상선 세포 대사의 주요 조절자입니다. 이 단백질은 thyrotropin과 thyrostimulin의 수용체로 작용하며, adenylate cyclase를 통해 활성화됩니다. 이 유전자의 결함은 여러 형태의 갑상선기능항진증을 유발할 수 있습니다. 세 가지 전사 변이체가 보고되어 있으며, 각각 다른 isoform을 암호화합니다.
