The Teashirt zinc finger homeobox (TSHZ) family comprises evolutionarily conserved transcription factors. In Drosophila, they are active in specific body parts for patterning, while their function in vertebrates is less clear.
In mice, three known TSHZ proteins show distinct expression patterns in the developing and adult brain, suggesting roles in regional identity and cell type specification.
Recent studies indicate that TSHZ2 expression is frequently downregulated in most breast and prostate cancers, with its promoter unmethylated in nearly all cases, implying potential involvement in carcinogenesis.
