Target Information
The Teashirt zinc finger homeobox (TSHZ) family comprises evolutionarily conserved transcription factors. In Drosophila, these factors are involved in body patterning, while in vertebrates, their roles are less defined. In mice, TSHZ proteins are expressed in distinct brain regions, suggesting a role in regional identity and neuronal cell type specification.
TSHZ3 and TSHZ1 interact with FE65, an adapter protein that binds to the amyloid precursor protein (APP) in neurons. Together with SET and histone deacetylases, they form a gene-silencing complex targeting caspase-4. Recent studies suggest potential involvement of this family in carcinogenesis.
