ERN1 (Endoplasmic Reticulum to Nucleus Signaling 1) serine/threonine kinase는 효모 Ire1 유전자의 인간 상동체로, 고유의 kinase 및 endoribonuclease 활성을 가집니다.
이 단백질은 세포 내 스트레스 반응에서 중요한 역할을 하며, ER 기반 스트레스 신호를 핵으로 전달하는 과정에 관여합니다.
IRE1은 접힘이 잘못된 단백질이 축적될 때 이를 감지하고 XBP1 mRNA를 절단하여 활성화된 전사 인자로 변환시킵니다.
이 기능은 세포 생존과 발달에 필수적이며, 스트레스 조건에서 IRE1 결핍 시 세포 사멸이 유도될 수 있습니다.
