Target Information
This gene encodes the large subunit of DNA damage-binding protein, a heterodimer composed of large and small subunits. It functions in nucleotide-excision repair, and its defective activity causes repair defects in xeroderma pigmentosum complementation group E (XPE) patients.
Best vitelliform macular dystrophy is mapped to the same region (11q), but no sequence alterations of this gene are demonstrated in Best disease patients.
