Target Information
NALP1 is a member of the Ced-4 family of apoptosis-related proteins. Members of this family contain a caspase recruitment domain (CARD) and are key mediators of programmed cell death. NALP1 includes an N-terminal pyrin-like motif involved in protein-protein interactions. It interacts strongly with caspase 2 and weakly with caspase 9. Overexpression of this gene induces apoptosis in cells. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified, though the biological significance of some remains uncertain.
