Target Information

Placental Alkaline Phosphatase (PLAP) is a membrane-bound isoenzyme expressed in the placenta during the third trimester of gestation. It is involved in inflammatory regulation and matrix mineralization. PLAP is useful for identifying testicular germ cell tumors. PLAP-positive somatic cell tumors typically express epithelial membrane antigen (EMA). Deficiency or mutation of this enzyme is associated with hypophosphatasia, a disorder characterized by hypercalcemia and skeletal defects.
