PA1-009 detects alpha-A crystallin from bovine and rat samples.
This antibody does not detect the unphosphorylated form of the protein.
It has been successfully used in Western blot and immunohistochemistry procedures.

• In Western blot, detects an ~20 kDa protein representing alpha-A crystallin from bovine lens samples.
• In immunohistochemistry of rat thymus, stains epithelial reticular cells.
• Immunogen: purified alpha-A Crystallin from bovine lens.
• Reconstitute in 100 µL PBS to create a stock of 1 mg/mL.

Target Information

Lens proteins consist almost entirely of crystallins (about 95%), also found in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue.
In the lens, crystallins maintain proper refractive index.

• Three major classes: alpha, beta, and gamma crystallins.
• Alpha-crystallin is composed of two gene products: alpha-A and alpha-B.
• Alpha-crystallin comprises ~40% of total lens protein.
• Functions as a molecular chaperone preventing protein aggregation, potentially reducing cataract formation.
• Phosphorylated states may respond to cellular stress and aid in structural control.
• Alpha-B crystallin has been linked to Alexander’s disease, accumulating in brain cells.
