Target Information
Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have diverse functions, often involving transcriptional activation or repression.
ZKSCAN5 (also known as ZFP95) is a 839-amino-acid protein containing thirteen C2H2-type zinc fingers, one KRAB A domain, and one SCAN box domain.
It is localized in the nucleus and highly expressed in the testis, with lower expression in liver, kidney, brain, striated muscle, lung, and heart.
Many KRAB A box-containing proteins act as transcription repressors, suggesting a similar role for ZKSCAN5.
Alternative splicing produces three transcripts, one of which is testis-specific. The mouse homolog shows differential expression during spermatogenesis.
