FOXP1 유전자는 forkhead box (FOX) 전사인자 패밀리의 P 서브패밀리에 속합니다. Forkhead box 전사인자는 발생 및 성체 단계에서 조직 및 세포 유형 특이적 유전자 전사를 조절하는 데 중요한 역할을 합니다. FOXP1 단백질은 DNA 결합 및 단백질-단백질 결합 도메인을 모두 포함하며, 여러 종양 유형에서 소실되어 종양 억제 인자로 작용할 가능성이 있습니다. 또한 3p14.1 염색체 영역에 위치하며, 해당 영역은 종양 억제 유전자를 포함하는 것으로 보고되었습니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 다양한 아이소폼을 인코딩하는 여러 전사 변형이 생성됩니다.
