Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the MHC Class I complex. It is expressed on various cell types including lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes. It is also found free in plasma.
The protein structure resembles immunoglobulin constant regions and plays a role in antigen processing and TCR signaling. The B2M gene is located on chromosome 15; mutations can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
Beta-2 microglobulin levels are used to assess renal function and serve as a prognostic marker for HIV infection.
