Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the MHC class I complex. It is expressed on various cell types, including lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
B2M is also found freely in plasma and shares sequence homology with immunoglobulin constant regions, forming a beta-pleated sheet structure. It is involved in antigen processing and presentation, TCR signaling, and CD8+ cell signaling.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations can lead to hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia. Its levels serve as a marker for renal function and HIV prognosis.
