Product Specific Information
Description:
The XMG1.2 antibody reacts with mouse interferon (IFN) gamma and is a neutralizing antibody. Mouse IFN gamma is a 20 kDa factor produced by activated T, B, and NK cells, functioning as an antiviral and antiparasitic cytokine. In synergy with TNF alpha, IFN gamma inhibits proliferation of normal and transformed cells and exerts immunomodulatory effects on various cell types expressing high-affinity receptors for IFN gamma. Glycosylation does not affect its biological activity.

XMG1.2 has been reported for use in ELISA and Western blot (WB).

Target Information
IFN gamma (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon):
A macrophage activation factor produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and NK cells in response to antigens and cytokines. It is a dimeric glycoprotein (~45 kDa) consisting of two 146 amino acid subunits. IFN gamma exhibits species-specific biological activity and functions include:
- Antiviral and tumor antiproliferative activity
- Induction of MHC class I and II
- Macrophage activation
- Enhanced immunoglobulin secretion by B lymphocytes
Human IFN gamma shows ~40% sequence homology with mouse IFN gamma. Mutations in the IFN gamma gene are associated with aplastic anemia.
