Despite its predicted molecular weight, IL-31 often migrates at ~27–30 kDa in SDS-PAGE.
A suggested positive control is human skeletal muscle tissue lysate.
PA5-20220 can be used with blocking peptide PEP-0333.
Target Information
Interleukin-31 (IL-31) is a T-cell cytokine closely related to IL-6 type cytokines, predominantly produced by T helper type 2 cells.
IL-31 activity is mediated through ligand-induced oligomerization of a receptor complex containing IL-31 receptor A and oncostatin M receptor.
Binding of IL-31 activates JAK/STAT and AKT signaling pathways.
RNA levels of IL-31 receptor A and oncostatin M receptor are induced in activated monocytes and constitutively expressed in epithelial cells.
Overexpression of IL-31 in transgenic mice leads to pruritis, alopecia, and skin lesions; in humans, it may contribute to atopic dermatitis, suggesting IL-31 as a potential target for antipruritic drug development.
