Target Information
This gene encodes an activating transcription factor belonging to the ATF subfamily and bZIP (basic-region leucine zipper) family. It regulates downstream target genes related to growth, survival, and other cellular activities. The protein is phosphorylated at serine 63 by various kinases including PKA, CaMK I/II, MAPK, and CDK3, enhancing its transcriptional activity and promoting cell transformation. Chromosomal translocations involving this gene (with FUS on chromosome 16 or EWSR1 on chromosome 22) can generate chimeric proteins found in angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and clear cell sarcoma. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 6.
