Target Information
ATG5 (Autophagy Related 5) is an essential component of the autophagy machinery and plays a critical role in apoptosis. It is involved in mitochondrial quality control after oxidative stress, immune regulation, lymphocyte proliferation, MHC II antigen presentation, and adipocyte differentiation.
Upon conjugation with ATG12, the ATG5–ATG12 complex contributes to autophagosome formation and interacts with FADD to mediate autophagic cell death. This conjugate also modulates innate immune responses by interacting with RIG-I and VISA, thereby affecting type I interferon signaling.
Dysfunction of ATG5 has been linked to diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia.
