Target Information

Thioredoxins (Trx) are small, multifunctional proteins with oxidoreductase activity, found in nearly all living cells.
They contain a redox-active disulfide/dithiol group within the conserved Cys-Gly-Pro-Cys active site.
The two cysteine residues can form intramolecular disulfide bonds, reduced by Trx reductase using NADPH.
Reduced Trx serves as a hydrogen donor for ribonucleotide reductase, essential for DNA synthesis, and acts as a general protein disulfide reductase.
Trx also interacts with protein disulfide-isomerase (PDI) and transcription factors such as p53, NF-κB, and AP-1, and contributes to H₂O₂ removal when coupled with methionine sulfoxide reductase or peroxiredoxins.
