Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration. For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles. Centrifuge if not clear after standing at room temperature. Stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid; dilute only before immediate use.

Anti-Ferritin antibody is an IgG fraction purified from monospecific antiserum through delipidation, salt fractionation, and ion-exchange chromatography, followed by extensive dialysis. Immunoelectrophoresis shows a single precipitin arc against anti-Biotin, anti-Rabbit Serum, and purified Ferritin [Human Spleen]. Cross-reactivity with Ferritin from other sources may occur but has not been determined.

Target Information

Ferritin is the major intracellular iron storage protein found in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It consists of 24 subunits of heavy (H) and light (L) chains, forming a shell with a molecular weight of ~450 kDa capable of storing up to 4,500 ferric iron atoms. Variation in subunit composition influences iron uptake and release rates. Defects in the light chain gene are linked to neurodegenerative diseases and hyperferritinemia-cataract syndrome. Ferritin is ubiquitous and highly conserved, playing a key role in iron homeostasis.
