Podocin 단백질은 NPHS2 유전자에서 발현되며, SRN1 병리 상태와 밀접한 관련이 있습니다. Podocin의 비정상적인 신호 전달은 podocyte 기능 장애 및 단백뇨 발생에 기여합니다. 인간 NPHS2 유전자는 염색체 1q25-q31에 위치하며, 383개의 아미노산으로 구성된 단백질을 암호화합니다. Podocin은 막관통형 단백질로, hairpin 구조를 형성하며 stomatin 계열 단백질과 유사한 구조적 특징을 가집니다. 사구체 podocyte 내에서 고차 올리고머 형태로 발현되어 여과 장벽의 안정성 유지에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
