Target Information
NRF1 encodes a transcription factor that homodimerizes and activates expression of key metabolic genes involved in cellular growth, respiration, heme biosynthesis, and mitochondrial DNA transcription and replication. It is also associated with neurite outgrowth regulation. Alternate splice variants encoding the same protein have been characterized, and additional variants may exist but are not fully described. Note that confusion may occur with the similarly abbreviated gene NFE2L1 (nuclear factor, erythroid-derived 2-like 1).
