HLA-F는 HLA class I heavy chain paralogues에 속하며, 비정형(non-classical) 중쇄로서 β2-microglobulin 경쇄와 이합체를 형성합니다. 대부분의 HLA 중쇄와 달리, 이 단백질은 주로 소포체와 골지체에 위치하며 일부 세포 유형에서는 세포 표면에 소량 존재합니다. 제한된 펩타이드 서브세트를 결합하여 면역 제시에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
