Target Information
Vang-like 1 (VANGL1) protein is a human homologue of Drosophila Van Gogh/Strabismus. The VANGL1 gene contains at least seven exons and encodes a protein with four transmembrane domains and a C-terminal Ser/Thr-X-Val motif. Expression is significantly upregulated in several cancer cell lines, including gastric (MKN28, MKN74) and pancreatic (BxPC-3, PSN-1, Hs766T) lines. VANGL1 may mediate intestinal trefoil factor (ITF) responses, serve as a diagnostic marker for hepatocellular carcinoma, and be implicated in neural tube defects (NTD). The gene is located on chromosome 1p11–p13.1.
