Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the myosin superfamily. Myosins are molecular motors that, upon interaction with actin filaments, utilize energy from ATP hydrolysis to generate mechanical force. Each myosin has a conserved N-terminal motor domain containing ATP-binding and actin-binding sequences. Following the motor domain is a light-chain-binding neck region with IQ motifs that bind calmodulin or other EF-hand calcium-binding proteins. The C-terminal tail domain is distinct for each myosin class and is involved in dimerization, membrane binding, protein interactions, and subcellular targeting.
In kidney epithelial cell line LLC-PK1-CL4 (CL4), the encoded protein forms a brush border on the apical surface. The brush border population of this protein turns over rapidly, while its head and tail domains interact transiently with actin and plasma membrane. A rapidly exchanging pool of this protein envelops a static actin core bundle.
