Target Information

Guanylyl cyclases catalyze the production of cGMP from GTP and are classified as soluble and membrane forms.
Membrane guanylyl cyclases (GC-A through GC-F) form a family of cell-surface receptors with similar topographic structures:

  • Extracellular ligand-binding domain
  • Single membrane-spanning domain
  • Intracellular protein kinase-like and cyclase catalytic domains

GC-A and GC-B function as receptors for natriuretic peptides, also known as atrial natriuretic peptide receptor A and type B.
NPR1 is a membrane-bound guanylate cyclase that serves as the receptor for both atrial and brain natriuretic peptides (ANP and BNP).
