Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody 6A7M recognizes human glycophorin A (CD235a), reacting with the M allele. Glycophorin A is a 151 amino acid sialoglycoprotein found on erythrocyte and erythroid progenitor cell membranes (~500,000 copies per cell). The gene resides on chromosome 4 with two allelic forms (M and N), differing by two amino acids: M (Ser1, Gly5) and N (Leu1, Glu5).
Exposure to toxins may cause allele mutation or loss, leading to phenotypic changes. Studies suggest correlations between genotype/phenotype and predisposition to cancer and heart disease.

Applications Reported: Suitable for flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometry on human peripheral blood cells. Recommended use: 5 µL (0.5 µg)/test in 100 µL final volume. Cell number range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Fluorophore Information:
eFluor® 450 is an alternative to Pacific Blue®, excited at 405 nm and emitting at 445 nm. Ensure instrument compatibility with this fluorochrome.

Target Information

CD235a (Glycophorin A, GPA) is a single-pass membrane sialoglycoprotein expressed in mature erythrocytes and erythroid precursor cells. It carries blood group M and N specificities and provides a mucin-like barrier that minimizes red blood cell aggregation. CD235a also acts as a receptor for Sandei virus, parvovirus, and Hsa (Streptococcus adhesin).
