Target Information

Cyclin D1 (PRAD-1, bcl-1) is a key regulator of the cell cycle, functioning with CDK4 and/or CDK6 to phosphorylate the Rb protein. It is a proto-oncogene overexpressed in various human cancers, including mantle cell lymphomas (MCL). Cyclin D1 promotes protein phosphorylation, epithelial cell proliferation, and adipocyte differentiation.
In humans, the CCND1 gene encoding Cyclin D1 is located on chromosome 11. Cyclin D1 is both cytoplasmic and nuclear, synthesized during G1 phase, and forms complexes with CDK4 or CDK6 in response to growth factor stimulation. These complexes inactivate Rb protein and regulate CDK inhibitors such as p21Cip1 and p27Kip1.
Without growth factor stimulation, Cyclin D1 is unstable and undergoes ubiquitin-mediated degradation, contributing to G1/S phase arrest. It belongs to the conserved cyclin family, characterized by periodic protein abundance during the cell cycle. Cyclin D1 interacts with tumor suppressor Rb and its expression is positively regulated by Rb.
Mutations, amplification, and overexpression of Cyclin D1 are common in tumors and may contribute to tumorigenesis. This antibody is a valuable tool for studies in cell cycle biology and cancer research.
