Target Information
The PKLR gene encodes pyruvate kinase, an enzyme catalyzing the transphosphorylation of phosphoenolpyruvate to pyruvate and ATP—the rate-limiting step of glycolysis. Mutations or variations in this gene can cause chronic hereditary nonspherocytic hemolytic anemia (CNSHA/HNSHA). Multiple transcript variants encode different isoforms of this enzyme.
