Target Information
PDGFRA (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptor Alpha) is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The receptor can form homodimers or heterodimers (with PDGFRB), depending on the ligand bound. Knockout mouse studies indicate PDGFRA plays a crucial role in kidney development; heterozygous mice exhibit defective renal phenotypes.
