Target Information
ITAGV encodes the integrin alpha chain V. Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of alpha and beta chains. The I-domain containing integrin alpha V undergoes post-translational cleavage to yield disulfide-linked heavy and light chains, which combine with multiple integrin beta chains to form distinct integrins.
Among the known associating beta chains (β1, β3, β5, β6, and β8; ITGB1, ITGB3, ITGB5, ITGB6, and ITGB8), each interacts with extracellular matrix ligands. The αVβ3 integrin, also known as the Vitronectin receptor (VNR), is one of the most studied. In addition to adhesion, integrins facilitate signal transduction. The ITGB3 protein product forms the integrin beta chain β3, which combines with the αIIb chain in platelets. Integrins are key mediators of cell adhesion and surface signaling.
