Target Information

This gene encodes the D3 subtype of the five (D1–D5) dopamine receptors. The activity of the D3 receptor is mediated by G proteins that inhibit adenylyl cyclase. It is localized in limbic areas of the brain associated with cognitive, emotional, and endocrine functions. Genetic variation may be linked to susceptibility to hereditary essential tremor 1. Alternative splicing results in transcript variants encoding different isoforms, some of which may undergo nonsense-mediated decay (NMD).
