Target Information
P-cadherin (Cadherin-3, CDH3) is a Type 1 cadherin protein belonging to the cadherin superfamily.
It is a single-pass transmembrane glycoprotein with five extracellular cadherin repeats and an intracellular domain that binds p120-catenin and beta-catenin.
Cadherins mediate calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion and are involved in development, wound healing, cell signaling, growth, and differentiation.
P-cadherin is expressed in human fetal tissues and adult organs including epidermis, breast, prostate, ovary, cervix, hair follicle, and corneal endothelium.
It is also found in embryonic stem cells and mammary gland stem cells.
Overexpression of P-cadherin is correlated with poor prognosis in several carcinomas (breast, prostate, ovary, colon, stomach).
Mutations in CDH3 are linked to congenital hypotrichosis with juvenile macular dystrophy.
