Target Information
The DNA ligase IV protein joins single-strand breaks in double-stranded DNA in an ATP-dependent reaction. It is essential for V(D)J recombination and DNA double-strand break repair via nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ). The protein forms a complex with XRCC4 and interacts with DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK), both required for NHEJ. Defects in this gene cause LIG4 syndrome. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
