Target Information

Aquaporins (AQP0–AQP10) are membrane channels facilitating water transport in mammalian tissues. Some isoforms (AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, AQP10) also transport urea and glycerol.
AQP2 is vasopressin-activated and regulates water reabsorption in kidney collecting ducts.
Aquaporins play roles in renal water absorption, pulmonary secretion, lacrimation, and cerebrospinal fluid regulation.
In the lung, AQP5 mediates water transport across the apical membrane of type I alveolar epithelial cells.
