Target Information
AQP3 (Aquaporin 3) is a water channel protein belonging to the aquaporin family of small integral membrane proteins related to the major intrinsic protein (MIP or AQP0). It is localized at the basolateral membranes of collecting duct cells in the kidney.
In addition to water transport, AQP3 facilitates the movement of nonionic small solutes such as urea and glycerol, though to a lesser extent.
Water channels like AQP3 can exhibit functional heterogeneity, possessing both water and solute permeation mechanisms.
