Target Information
Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase (iNOS) is an enzyme responsible for the production of nitric oxide (NO), a gaseous signaling molecule involved in vasorelaxation, neurotransmission, and cytotoxicity. iNOS expression is inducible by lipopolysaccharide and cytokines such as IFN-γ, TNF, IL-1, and IL-2. The enzyme catalyzes the oxidation of L-arginine to L-citrulline and NO. It is found in various cell types including macrophages, hepatocytes, synoviocytes, and smooth muscle cells. iNOS dysfunction has been linked to diseases such as achalasia and impotence.
