- Recommended positive controls:
- HeLa cells treated with 100 µM BrdU for 4 hrs
- U343 cells treated with 10 µM BrdU for 18 hrs
- Store product as a concentrated solution.
- Centrifuge briefly prior to opening the vial.
Target Information
Bromodeoxyuridine (5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine, BrdU) is a synthetic nucleoside, an analogue of thymidine. BrdU is widely used for detecting proliferating cells in living tissues. It incorporates into newly synthesized DNA of replicating cells during the S phase, substituting for thymidine. Antibodies specific for BrdU detect the incorporated nucleoside, marking actively replicating cells. Binding of the antibody requires DNA denaturation, typically via acid or heat exposure.
