Target Information
This gene encodes a component of SCF complexes, which include SKP1, cullin 1, a ring-box protein, and one member of the F-box family. SKP1 binds directly to the F-box motif found in F-box proteins. SCF complexes regulate ubiquitination of specific substrates, targeting them for proteasomal degradation. F-box proteins recognize different targets, and many SCF substrates have been identified, including regulators of cell cycle progression and development. SKP1 has also been characterized as an RNA polymerase II elongation factor. Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants, and a related pseudogene exists on chromosome 7.
