TAS2R9 유전자는 G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) 초가족에 속하는 미각 수용체 후보군에 속합니다. 이 단백질들은 혀와 입천장의 미각 수용체 세포에서 특이적으로 발현되며, 쓴맛 인식과 관련된 유전자 군(cluster)으로 조직되어 있습니다. 기능적 발현 연구에서 TAS2R9은 쓴맛 물질에 반응하며, 인간에서는 염색체 12p13의 미각 수용체 유전자 클러스터에 위치합니다. 이 수용체는 PLCB2 및 TRPM5를 통한 신호 전달에 관여하며, 혀와 입천장의 gustducin-양성 세포에서 발현됩니다.
