Target Information
Trace amines are biogenic amines present in very low levels in mammalian tissues. Although some trace amines have clearly defined roles as neurotransmitters in invertebrates, their function in vertebrates remains speculative. They are likely involved in various physiological processes. TAAR6 is expressed at low levels in several brain regions and fetal liver, but not in cerebellum or placenta. In the brain, expression is highest in the hippocampus and lowest in the basal ganglia.
