Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody eBio8D9 reacts with an epitope shared by mouse CD21 (CR2) and CD35 (CR1).
CD21 and CD35 are splice variants from the Cr2 gene producing 145 kDa and 190 kDa surface proteins, respectively.
They are expressed by mature B cells, but not by thymocytes, peripheral T cells, erythrocytes, or platelets. Some evidence suggests expression on macrophages.

• CD21 acts as a receptor for complement component C3d and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
• In association with CD19 and CD81, CD21 participates in B-cell activation via the B-cell receptor.
• Cr2-deficient mice show impaired inflammatory and humoral immune responses.
• Clones eBio4E3 and eBio8D9 bind different epitopes (do not cross-block).

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Tested on mouse splenocytes at ≤0.5 µg/test (100 µL final volume, 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).
Titrate as needed for optimal performance.

Target Information

CD21 (Complement Receptor 2, CR2):
Binds C3 complement fragments, aiding in immune complex uptake, memory B-cell survival, and humoral response.
Also serves as a receptor for Epstein-Barr virus and plays a role in prion targeting to follicular dendritic cells.

CD35 (Complement Receptor 1, CR1):
Membrane glycoprotein on blood cells, podocytes, and dendritic cells.
Receptor for complement components C3b and C4b, regulating complement cascade activity.
Genetic variations define the Knops blood group system.
A soluble plasma form exists but is not fully characterized.
