Target Information
Peroxins (PEXs) are proteins essential for the assembly of functional peroxisomes. Peroxisome biogenesis disorders (PBDs) are genetically heterogeneous autosomal recessive diseases characterized by multiple defects in peroxisome function. These disorders include at least 14 complementation groups, each potentially showing multiple phenotypes. Although clinical features vary, cells from all PBD patients exhibit defects in the import of one or more classes of peroxisomal matrix proteins into the organelle.
