Target Information
Plasma prekallikrein is a glycoprotein involved in blood coagulation, fibrinolysis, kinin generation, and inflammation. It is synthesized in the liver and secreted into the blood as a single polypeptide chain. Conversion to plasma kallikrein occurs via factor XIIa cleavage, producing heavy and light chains linked by a disulfide bond. The heavy chain contains four apple domains contributing to pro-coagulant activity, while the light chain includes the catalytic domain homologous to trypsin-like serine proteases. Deficiency of plasma prekallikrein can cause prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time.
