Target Information
The CD3 subunit complex is crucial for transducing antigen-recognition signals into the cytoplasm of T cells and regulating TCR complex expression. CD3 gamma, delta, epsilon, and zeta subunits are structurally related members of the immunoglobulin superfamily encoded by closely linked genes on human chromosome 11. These subunits have long cytoplasmic tails that associate with signal transduction molecules via a double tyrosine-based motif. CD3 may play roles in TCR-induced growth arrest, cell survival, and proliferation.
CD3 antigen is expressed on 68–82% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes, 65–85% of thymocytes, and Purkinje cells in the cerebellum. It is not expressed on B or NK cells. Reduced T lymphocyte levels may be observed in certain autoimmune diseases. Defects in CD3 genes are associated with CD3 immunodeficiency.
